Do a Little Dance
When my little cousin told me she had a dance for every good thing that happened in her life, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing. And she wasn't even kidding. She had recently gotten a neat wardrobe fixed in the corner of her room after a lot of hesitation from my Aunt. And she danced when the wardrobe finally came in.She danced when she aced a test. She danced when her favorite meal was cooked. She even danced when I told her I was going to write about her little dances someday. Now you're probably thinking, "that's a lot of dancing happening in a single day." Well, I'd say that's a lot of good things taking place that didn't go by unnoticed. Our system has a way of praising the bigger things that it almost makes "little" gifts like these seem insignificant. Too small to be seen, too small to make any difference, way too small to be thankful for.Oh the things we miss on the way when we're only looking for the bigger picture, when we are in so much of a haste to make a stop because the adventure only begins when we arrive. But no. The adventure began even before we set off. It's always been there. We are so busy packing for the bigger life that we easily fail to see the goodness in small moments. What is it that we are waiting for? All the tiny windows you're rushing past have rooms on the other side. Celebrate the little things too.Do a little dance for when you're able to wake up early and get to check that task off the list. Do a little dance for when you follow the recipe and surprise yourself with a heavenly taste. Do a little dance when you cover that mile in your morning run or make it through the interview. When you change a flat tyre in the middle of no where. When you dye your hair or donate to that fund. It doesn't have to be big. Doesn't have to blow your mind first. When it happens, and it's good, allow yourself the happiness of it. Don't just let it go- no matter how small. These little treasures rolled into one do not even give us the big adventure we are looking for. All we get is the gift of being fully present. So that we're here and not there. We are here and here alone. We wrap ourselves in the warmth of the day, we open our eyes to the million and one things we've taken for granted for so long. We raise the blinds and stretch our minds. It's morning again. And this time, the little things won't pass us by.We are awake and dancing all the way.
