Everyone gets 24

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse - Ryan BlairI am having the craziest moment of my life drawing a straight line between work and grad school. I've spent more time complaining about the stress and how I can't seem to find balance between the two than I have on getting a task done. I've stopped eating well and I can't seem to return the call I miss. Point is, it's been almost impossible to get anything else done lately. But here's what I'm beginning to accept about priorities that I didn't realize before.

We are never too busy

I am one of the million people who run around murmuring under their breaths about not having time. But time is just enough. More so because we cannot fix in a couple of hours when we want or feel like it. Everyone gets 24. And people are getting more done in less. There's no secret pass to a realm of boundless time. There is, however, the skill to make time for the things that matter. Skill because making a choice about what is relevant and what isn't and deciding the things to invest in take a lot of effort- especially for people like me who want to get it all done.

Action expresses Priorities (Gandhi)

When we finally get to choose the parts of our lives we want to see flourish, we get to watering. We roll up our sleeves and dig in the dirt and do the hard work. I had been writing this very post in my head for days now and you're reading it today because I pushed myself out of bed and sat to battle the words out. Time is a resource. We invest where we know the outcome will tell a better story. It is not enough knowing something matters to you. You do everything you can to make sure it breathes and stays alive with you on the journey.

These mountains that you're carrying, you were only supposed to climb (Zajwa)

This is for the go-getters. The babes who like to hustle. For all the chasers who do not stop at the red lights. Take your time. Remember to breathe too. Remember to feed yourself too. We have overwhelmed our minds and bodies. We have put ourselves on the list that can wait. We have chosen the paths we want to take and none of it leads back home to us. But the world we want to save will do better on well-rested shoulders than tired and broken ones. Putting yourself first is a priority worth chasing.Time is no better at escaping or slipping through our fingers than we are at choosing to live deliberately. It is entirely up to us to decide how we can make the best use of it without beating ourselves down for every moment it goes wasted.IMG_5076
